When You Can’t Require the Web Camera: exploring alternative options for students
You may have seen or heard about new guidance from the university about having students on camera during live class sessions. Simply summarized, faculty may not require students to turn on their cameras, they must obtain consent from students to be recorded, and they must inform students of these things both in the syllabus and in person. In this session, we will briefly review communications from CUNY central and Baruch about holding class meetings on Zoom (or Blackboard Collaborate Ultra). The bulk of our time will be spent in open discussion about how to meet the requirements in a way that aligns with your course goals. We welcome individual questions, and there will be time for brainstorming ideas to make your live class sessions active and student-centered, with or without cameras on.

Faculty Approaches to Vocat
Baruch’s multimedia uploading and assessment platform, Vocat, has been used in many ways to facilitate distance learning. In this webinar, Professor Lauren Aydinliyim of the Narendra Paul Loomba Department of Management will discuss how she has used Vocat both to distribute her own content and to accept student submissions. Uses include:
• Sharing pre-recorded lectures or other course content for asynchronous viewing and interaction.
• Having students upload individual or group video assignments, such as presentations that are typically done in class.
• Creating a virtual group rehearsal space where students can share videos and give each other feedback before submitting a final version.
Craig Stone of the Center for Teaching and Learning will then demonstrate how to set up your course in Vocat for these uses.
If you’re unfamiliar with Vocat, please view our recorded “Vocat Bootcamp” before joining this session.

Election 2020 @ Baruch: Who’s Winning the Battle for Congress?
With all the attention paid to the presidential election, we can lose sight of how important control of Congress will be to the winner. Will Democrats take control of the Senate—including its power to confirm judges? Will progressives expand their power in the House? Our panel of experts working in the fields of campaign polling, journalism, and academia will help explain the current state of the battle for Congress, and provide clues for what to expect in November.
